30 gas saving tips

Wow! can oil prices go any higher? These days, it pays to know
how to squeeze every last mile out of that $3+ a gallon elixir
we call gasoline. Here are some tips to help you through.

The surest way you can improve your fuel, gas regulator, cost problem is to
change your motoring habits. Listed below under four categories
are 30 effective methods of doing so... no need to buy expensive
add-on equipment.

ENGINE WARM-UP

1. Avoid prolonged warming up of engine, even on cold mornings -

Gm Has Big Plans For Chevrolet

Car manufacturers are taking a global approach in the creation of concept vehicles. At the much-concluded auto show in New York's, different jaw-dropping auto concepts were unveiled. General Motors Corp.'s Chevrolet brand, for one, has, gas regulator, envisioned introducing just one minicar concept but the executives could not decide which of the three designs to forego. So the automaker introduced their three new concepts in the Big Apple.

The Groove, which is also called the "Funkastalgia," is a five-door model with a 1-liter, 3-cylinder diesel engine to blend with its tougher appearance.

GM builds minicars, gas regulator, in other markets but has not determined if there is a strong enough business to bring the little racers to the United States, Lutz said. "We have a very strong focus on small cars in the current and future portfolio for the U.S. The real question is will we build these types of vehicles in the U.S.? Historically, these types of cars haven't done well here. But clearly, things are changing," Lutz noted.

The small car market will continue to grow and it would bode well for GM to, gas regulator, make the minicar concepts a reality, said Jesse Toprak, an Edmunds.com analyst, gas regulator, . Biodiesel And Impact On The Environment

What kind of difference can the use biodiesel make when it comes
to changing the world for the better? Perhaps the biggest impact
of the use of biodiesel fuel instead of just plain diesel is on
the human health and the environment.

One of the biggest differences that biodiesel make is with
regards to smog. Using biodiesel actually reduces smog. Both
unburned hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides in diesel fuel account
for most of the particulates in air pollution. When you use
biodiesel product or homemade biodiesel there is a substantial
reduction of unburned hydrocarbons and if you are using a blend
that is right for, gas regulator, your machine. Tests that have been conducted
according to EPA regulations have shown that the hydrocarbon
exhaust emissions, gas regulator, that biodiesel are half that of that measured
for diesel fuel.

Can biodiesel make more energy? Unlike the burning of fossil

aromatic compounds. The purer the biodiesel fuel is the less

hydrocarbon emissions by almost 4 million pounds, reduce
hazardous diesel particulate emissions by almost 3 million
pounds and reduce acid rain-causing sulfur dioxide emissions by
more than 3 million pounds. That's a big difference!

"increase Fuel Mileage By 4%" - Obama

In his first trip to Michigan last Monday as a presidential candidate, Barack Obama, took a big risk and told the leaders of the region that the Big Three should increase their vehicles' fuel mileage by four percent which is approximately a mile per gallon each year. This is for the purpose of curbing dependence, gas regulator, on foreign oil. Obama also is offering billions to aid the automakers.

Unfortunately, that was not the message that the Detroit automakers wanted to hear. "How do you impose that cost on an, gas regulator, industry that's going through this right now?" said General Motors Corp. spokesman Greg Martin. "(Our) position is that four percent is simply not achievable without great consequence to the industry and consumers."

In his 35-minute speech before a huge crowd at a Detroit Economic Club meeting in Cobo Center,, gas regulator,, gas regulator,, gas regulator, Obama offered the automakers a carrot if they improve fuel mileage: up to $7 billion through 2017 to help defray costly retiree health care costs; or $3 billion over ten years to help them retool their plants to make more, gas regulator, fuel-efficient, gas regulator, vehicles.

"Today, there are two kinds of car companies: those that, gas regulator, mass produce fuel-efficient, gas regulator, cars and those that will," said the Illinois Democrat. "The American auto industry can no longer afford to be one of those that will."

"America simply cannot continue on this path. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has estimated that it would cost $114 billion to defray expenses related to the improved fuel standards that Obama supports. According to the estimate, the Big Three would bear 80 percent of that cost, adding $3,000 to $5,000 to the price tag of each vehicle.

Mike Moran, Ford Motor Co.'s spokesman in Washington, said that Ford supports "equitable" reform of the Corporate Average, gas regulator, Fuel Economy regulations,, gas regulator, with "auto companies, fuel providers and consumers all involved."

The United Auto Workers (UAW) also is concerned about modifications in fuel-efficiency requirements. In a letter last Monday to a U.S. House committee considering such a proposal, UAW legislative director Alan Reuther said those standards could cost, gas regulator, the jobs of 17,000 auto workers and 50,000 auto parts workers.

After his speech, Obama told reporters, gas regulator, that his plan would cost the auto industry billions of dollars. But, he added, "at some point you have to recognize the path you're on isn't working. The sooner we start, the better off we're going to be."

A national poll released Monday showed U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., leading Obama 34 percent to 26. Obama had held a slight lead over Clinton last week.

Mark Jones, 45, of Farmington Hills said Obama delivered a "sound speech" and offered timely comments for a Detroit audience. "But I'd like to hear more about an urban agenda," he said. "And on his energy policy, he didn't say anything about nuclear energy."

Jeannie Jackson of Southfield, the president of EEO Monitoring Consultants, found Obama interesting. "He seems like he has good moral values and that's what I'm looking for," said Jackson, 60. "I like him, but I can't say I'd vote for him, yet. I'm watching. "He brings some excitement and that can help rejuvenate the party in the election, gas regulator, . It's good that he's like a rock star. Let's see if he can back it up."

Kilpatrick spokesman Matt Allen said the mayor "had an excellent meeting in his office" with Obama. In a statement, Allen described, gas regulator, the meeting as "serious and straightforward," but said Kilpatrick is not prepared to endorse a candidate.

I was a big believer in the fact that adding a tank of premium gasoline every now and then would clean out the system, as that it would burn at a higher temperature. Well, only until I conducted a detailed research, one that involved consulting with the Federal Trade Commissions. The research concluded, that using higher octane gas does not indeed clean your system, but actually cleans your wallet for no reason.

The Focus FCV is one of the industry's, gas regulator, first hybridized fuel

Gas prices are up, and so is the volume of advertising for
"gas-saving" products. When gasoline prices rise, consumers
often look for ways to improve fuel efficiency. Although there
are practical steps you can take to increase gas mileage, the
Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warns you to be wary of any
gas-saving claims for automotive devices or oil and gas
additives. Even for the few gas-saving products that have been
found to work, the savings have been small.

"Gas-Saving" Advertising Claims

Be skeptical of the following kinds of advertising claims.

"This gas-saving product improves fuel economy by 20, gas regulator, percent."

Claims usually tout savings ranging from 12 to 25, gas regulator, percent.
However, the Environmental Protection Agency, gas regulator, (EPA) has evaluated
or tested more than 100 alleged gas-saving devices and has not
found any product that significantly, gas regulator, improves, gas regulator, gas mileage. In

For example, one consumer sent a letter to a company praising
its "gas-saving" product. At the time the product was installed,
however, the consumer also had received a complete engine
tune-up - a fact not mentioned in the letter. The entire
increase in gas mileage attributed to the "gas-saving" product
may well have been the result of the tune-up alone. But from the
ad, other consumers could not have known that.

"This gas-saving device is approved by the Federal government."

No government agency endorses gas-saving products for cars. The
most that can be claimed in advertising is that the EPA has
reached certain conclusions about possible gas savings by
testing the product or by evaluating, gas regulator, the manufacturer's own test
data. If the seller claims that its product has been evaluated
by the EPA, ask for a copy of the EPA report, or check
www, gas regulator, .epa.gov for information. In some instances, false claims of
EPA testing or approval have been made.

Product Complaints and Refunds

manufacturer and ask for a refund. Most companies offer

If you're not satisfied with the company's response, contact

Business Bureau.

EPA Evaluation Efforts

The EPA evaluates or tests products to determine whether their

conducted any durability tests. It's possible that some products

fuel before it enters the carburetor. Usually, the fuel is
heated by the engine coolant or by the exhaust or electrical
system.

The EPA has evaluated: FuelXpander; Gas Meiser I; Greer Fuel
Preheater; Jacona Fuel System; Optimizer; Russell Fuelmiser.

Fuel Line Devices (magnets). These magnetic devices, clamped to

claim to change the molecular structure of gasoline.

Fuel Line Devices (metallic). Typically, these devices contain
several dissimilar metals that are installed in the fuel line,

Mixture Enhancers: (under the carburetor). These devices are
mounted between the carburetor and intake manifold and
supposedly enhance the mixing or vaporization of the air/fuel

Dupont And Honeywell Joined Forces To Produce Eco-friendly Refrigerant

The global warming issue has, gas regulator, led the auto industry to take steps to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Newer technologies have led to the reduction, gas regulator, of carbon dioxide emission on new cars. Particulate filters and other related components makes sure that the carbon dioxide formed by burning petroleum products in an internal combustion engine will be purified before being shot out of the vehicle's tailpipe.

But aside from a vehicle's internal combustion engine, it also poses a threat to the environment due to the refrigerants they use on automobile cooling units. To reduce this threat,, gas regulator, two giant companies have formed a partnership to develop an eco-friendly refrigerant, gas regulator, that can be used on automotive air conditioners.

DuPont and Honeywell recently announced that they have formed an agreement that will see them sharing resources, investment and technology to produce the future of vehicle refrigerants. The partnership aims to develop a refrigerant that will help car manufacturers meet stricter European legislations concerning the threat of refrigerants to the environment. Currently, automobile air conditioning systems uses HCF-134a. The said refrigerant poses a serious threat to the environment because of its high global warming potential.

The partnership is geared towards the developing of new refrigerants which will have a significantly lower global warming potential. They are also looking at the cost effectiveness of the new refrigerant that they are aiming to produce.

Currently, the auto industry is already considering new technologies but is held back by their cost. That is the reason why DuPont and Honeywell are aiming to develop a refrigerant that will cost less than alternative technologies. One of the more famous alternative refrigerant technologies is the use of carbon dioxide. Using that technology though would mean significant costs in transition so DuPont and Honeywell look to develop a refrigerant, gas regulator, that is fluorine-based which is well-matched to the HFC-134a technology currently being used.

Terrence Hahn, the Vice President and General Manager for Fluorine Products at Honeywell, have this to say about their aim: "Honeywell has a proven track record of developing refrigerant technologies to meet industry and customer requirements. We look forward to providing a near drop-in replacement that reduces the need for costly system redesign for the automotive industry. For the consumer, we will provide an environmentally friendlier, low-GWP solution without sacrificing comfort or reliability."

Is there a cost effective solution to help industry meet environmental regulations and relieve skyrocketing gas prices? Hundreds of millions of miles of road tests has proven that commercial fleets on average increase gas mileage, gas regulator, between 7% and 19% and reduce emissions by more than 30%.
